Overweight Employees Paying More

As of recently, eemployees at one of the nation’s largest drugstore chains, CVS pharmacy, must disclose personal health information — including their weight — or pay a $600-a-year fine, according to a published report. This trend has been occurring in many corporations, including hospitals and fortune 500 companies. There are varying opinions on this topic.

Dr. Anthony Wehbe, directory of the Soza Clinic, was asked for his opinion as a leading weight loss & wellness expert on the topic. Dr Wehbe appeared on Fox TV in Philadelphia to discuss the topic. With 75% of healthcare dollars being spent on preventable diseases, and obesity being a major cause of this, we need to take major steps as a society. Dr Wehbe believes there are several ways to doing this. CVS has taken the punitive direction in punishing their employees for non compliance, there isn’t enough studies to show that this method is optimal. What Dr Wehbe recommends is establishing a reward system, in which employees are rewarded for their positive behavior. The SOZA clinic has various wellness corporate programs and helps companies establish corporate weight loss and wellness programs for their employees. “We see positive results by establishing a system that encourages and rewards employees’ healthy behaviors,” says Dr Wehbe.
